Parkway Tree Program

Parkway Tree Program

To preserve the community’s investment in its “soft” infrastructure, protect the environment, and enhance the value of residential and commercial real estate, the Village of Mokena maintains a program to remove and replace existing public parkway trees that have died from natural causes or have been severely damaged or destroyed by storms.  This service is provided at no cost to residents living within Mokena’s corporate limits.

If you have a tree located in a parkway adjacent to your property that fits into one of the above categories, please call (708) 479-3900 to request an inspection of the tree.  Upon Village staff verification of need for replacement of the tree, the tree will be removed, its stump ground out, and a standard parkway tree planted in its place.  Replacement can generally be expected to take place from mid-May through the end of June, or from late September through mid-November, depending on timing of removal, contractor schedules, and available budgetary resources.

To further encourage the planting of trees in the community’s parkways, the Village additionally offers a cost-sharing program for residents wishing to plant new trees in parkways adjacent to their property.
