Garage/Estate Sales

Guidelines

Garage sales are a supported activity and are a common occurrence in Mokena as well as in other communities. Residents are requested to follow some simple guidelines required by the Village of Mokena.

  • Residents are required to obtain a permit from the Village prior to holding a garage sale.  In obtaining this free permit you have the option to have your sale advertised on Cable Channel 6 and on the Village's Website Garage Sale Calendar.
  • In order to be considered a “subdivision sale”, there must be a minimum of 10 homes participating.  If there are less than 10, each resident must apply for their own permit either in person at Village Hall or online electronically.
  • Garage sales should not begin before 9:00 am or last beyond 8:00 pm.  All garage sales should not extend beyond three consecutive days.
  • Please do not place advertising signs on utility poles, trees, street light poles or in the public right of way.  If found they will be removed by the Village's Public Works or Code Enforcement Staff.
  • Only ground signs located on the property of the sale are allowed.
  • All signs should be removed after sale has closed.
  • Only two garage sales per year are allowed on the same premises.
