Residential Interior Alteration/Remodel

A residential building permit is required for all residential interior alterations.  Examples include but are not limited to kitchen remodels, bathroom remodels, removal of load bearing and non-load bearing walls, enlargement or creation of new openings, and room conversions.

Application Requirements

The following is needed in order to apply for a permit:

• Completed Permit Application
  • EZ Permit Application (if using 2 or fewer contractors/sub-contractors)
  • Building Permit Application (if using more than 2 contractors/sub-contractors)
• One (1) copy of legible scaled construction plans. If not fully compliant with IRC - One (1) stamped and signed Architectural Plans (printed full size) – folded (if more than 12 sheets, plans may be rolled)
• Completed and signed copy of the Residential Interior Alteration/Remodel Guide.
• A copy of the contract between the homeowner and the contractor (if one is being used).
• Homeowner Affidavit if homeowner is doing any of the work themselves

  Fees: due upon permit issuance

• Review Fees - $1.50 per $1,000.00 of project valuation ($75.00 minimum)
• Permit Fees - $5.00 per $1,000.00 of project valuation ($90.00 minimum)

Required Inspections

• Dumpster – Waste receptacle must be in place prior to the issuance of the building permit.
• Various depending on project scope, but typically:
• Concrete prepour inspections (if applicable)
• Underground Plumbing (prior to covering with flooring or concrete, when applicable)
• Rough Framing, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing
• Insulation
• Final Framing, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing
